Our Approach

At Thalia's Garden Preschool, we offer a unique and engaging learning experience for children between the ages of 3-5. Nestled in a cozy in-home setting, this program provides a well-rounded curriculum that includes a perfect mix of play and education. From free play to structured activities, individual learning stations to group play, academic instruction to outdoor exploration, your child will have the opportunity to grow and thrive in a supportive environment. With a focus on early literacy, math concepts, science themes, art activities, and social emotional learning and problem solving, our preschool ensures that children are not only having fun but also developing essential skills for their future in a fun and meaningful way. Circle time, music and dance, story time, and sensory exploration further enhance the learning process and foster a love for discovery. Established four years ago, we have built a reputation for providing a safe and stimulating space for children to learn and play through a variety of creative outlets and learning modalities. Our program aims to create a sense of community among families, offering support and resources to parents as well.

Meet Your Teachers

A teacher's role is not only that of facilitator, but also nurturer, problem solver, and co-learner.

We encourage children to stretch their boundaries and find meaning and purpose in learning.

We invite children into individual or group exploration to learn at their own pace.

We help children take action, fostering creativity and promoting wonder and a desire to explore and learn.

*All teachers are up to date on all of their child care continuing education classes through DCYF/Licensing Department, have been trained in CPR/First Aid and have a current food handler’s card.

Thalia

Hello!  I'm the owner and lead teacher at Thalia's Garden Preschool.  I have two young boys, an elementary student and a preschooler who is part of my program.  I enjoy gardening, hiking, camping, biking, art, messy DIY projects, and playing the cello and piano when I can.  I graduated from college with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in painting and print-making.  I moved to Washington and began my teaching career at an elementary as a para-educator.  I loved working with the children so much that I returned to school to get my Masters in Teaching.  I have since worked with students from pre-k through 5th grade.  As a loving and dedicated educator and mother, I created this nurturing space at home to support my own little ones and others in our community. With over 10 years of teaching experience, a background in visual arts and music, I am fully licensed in Washington and am passionate about enriching young minds through art, music, and outdoor exploration.  I hope your little one joins us for a lively learning journey where creativity and investigation are a priority!

Makenzie

Hi, my name is Makenzie Todd and I love being a teacher! I graduated from Curtis High School in 2014. I got my degree in early childhood education, with a specialization in special needs and infants and toddlers from Tacoma Community College.  I started working with children at the YMCA as a lifeguard swim instructor and that’s where I first fell in love with teaching. Since then, I have enjoyed working at Kindercare and the before and after school program with Latchkey.  During Covid, I switched to working for in-home preschools and Nannying for wonderful families.  I have enjoyed the flexibility and opportunity to work with different families now that I have my own two year old.  Children are so full of joy and happiness.  I love seeing their curiosity sparked. I believe in balance of safety, fun, structure, and flexibility.  All kids can thrive with the right kind of support.
